The Mexicas condemned effeminate homosexuals to evisceration, bodily contents being removed through the victim's anus [...]
Nezahualcóyotl [...] found homosexual relations to be so revolting that in his thirteenth ordinance he recommends that if a man is determined to be a sodomite, he should die because of it. Because the punishment for the active male homosexual was less terrible and ignominious than evisceration (he was simply buried alive) it would also appear to engender - or at least reflect - an important and still prevalent distinction made in modern Mexico that carefully separates the
macho and the
hembra, the active and the passive, the
cuilón and the
chichifo, the queen and the hustler.
[...] Octavio Paz [...] suggests that for most mexicans, the only "deviant" participant in a homosexual relationship is the passive male or "puto", who is contrasted by the active macho for having dominated another male.

Sorprendente, ¿no?
