Berliners Berliners Berliners

Found this in some reddit conversation, on the way of agreeing...

Christopher Lasch(1979; 1984) has asserted that individualism, with its single-minded pursuit of personal and private goals, produces not an expanded self-concept, but a minimal self. The individual is overexposed to the competitive struggle of the marketplace without adequate social cushioning. He or she learns to prefer success over love, power over community -- choices that trigger both stress and anomie. Individualism essentially fights nature, the fact that we are social animals. Thus, cultural norms that favor "doing one's own thing," while highly applauded in recent years, turn out to be directly associated with deviant activity, particularly addiction.
